More than 40 liquid cold and allergy products for children were recalled by McNeil Consumer Healthcare on Friday because some of the medications fail to meet federal quality standards.

The over-the-counter medications involved in the recall include Benadryl, Motrin, Tylenol, Tylenol Plus and Zyrtec. These OTC drugs are sold in the U.S. and 11 other countries.

The company stresses that the recall was initiated due to manufacturing deficiencies that might affect quality, purity or potency not due to any adverse health effects. However, as a precautionary measure, parents and caregivers should not administer these products to their children, the company said.
